Trump Administration Can Now Revoke Legal Status of Over 500,000 Immigrants, U.S. Supreme Court Rules.

The administration of President Donald Trump can now revoke the legal status of more than 500,000 immigrants living in the United States, following a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court on Friday.

The decision overturned a previous federal judge's order that had blocked the administration from ending an immigration program initiated by former President Joe Biden. The program had protected immigrants fleeing economic and political turmoil in their home countries.

The new ruling puts approximately 530,000 immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela at risk of deportation.

Justices Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor, two of the three liberal justices on the court, dissented.

The Trump administration had filed an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court after a federal judge in Massachusetts had prevented the administration from terminating the program, also known as the CHNV humanitarian parole program.

The White House "celebrated" the opportunity to expel 500,000 "invaders," Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller told CNN. “The Supreme Court rightly stepped in.”
