Bugando Regional Referral Hospital today May 23, 2023 participated in the celebration of the day to eradicate Obstetric Fistula in the world, where this year nationally, the celebration was held in Kasulu District, Kigoma Region.
Representing the Minister of Health Hon. Ummy Mwalimu, Dr. Pascal Rugajo, the Director of Medicine from the Ministry of Health, has congratulated the mothers who are heroes of obstetric fistula who showed up to receive treatment at the Kasulu District Hospital. He has also thanked the Health Institutions, experts, stakeholders and various organizations that participate in providing this fistula treatment with quality and efficiency and to build the capacity of mothers after recovery and participate in various social activities. He has also urged them to cooperate in eradicating fistula before the year 2030. In addition to this, the Director of Medicine from the Ministry of Health has said that the Ministry of Health will continue to cooperate with stakeholders (AMERICARES, AMREF and others) and various organizations in providing training to specialists in regional hospitals (Appeal ) and Kanda To increase efficiency in the treatment of fistula.
In addition, the Resident Director of Americares Dr. Nguke Mwakatundu has said that the Americare Organization has been collaborating with the Ministry of Health and Bugando Hospital for 13 years now in providing treatment, psychological support and life skills to Fistula Victims who are treated free of charge, more than 3000 Victims have already received treatment at the Hospital of Bugando. He has also said that this problem is serious, so he has asked for more efforts to be made in eradicating reproductive fistula and treating those who have already had it.
Dr. Sr. Alicia Massenga Director of Surgical Services at the Bugando Regional Referral Hospital entrusting the Director General of the Bugando Regional Referral Hospital Dr. Fabian A. Massaga has thanked the Government through the Ministry of Health for fighting and improving health services for Tanzanians by providing funds and medical equipment in Our Referral and Regional Hospitals with great efforts in eradicating this disease through Stakeholders, Organizations and Health staff. He has also asked various organizations to join in efforts to help mothers and children to eradicate maternal fistula by 2030.
